A gift of Grace, given by God
At Oikos, we believe Baptism is not something we do for God.
It is something God does for us.
In Baptism, God joins His promise to water and gives new life —
forgiveness of sins, freedom from death, and a place in His family.
Baptism is a gift of grace, received in trust.
Questions are welcome
What is baptism?
Baptism is God’s work. Through water and God’s Word, He:
• Claims us as His own
• Washes us with forgiveness
• Unites us with Jesus’ death and resurrection
• Gives us a new identity as His beloved children
Baptism is not a symbol of how strong our faith is. It is a promise of how faithful God is.
Who is baptism for?
Baptism is for all people — children and adults alike. Because Baptism depends on God’s promise, not our understanding or maturity, we baptize:
• Infants and children
• Youth and adults
• Those new to faith
• Those returning to faith
Faith grows over time. Baptism begins with grace.
What if I was baptized before?
If you have already been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you do not need to be baptized again. Baptism is God’s promise — and God keeps His promises.
We believe the Christian life is one of returning to Baptism daily:
• Remembering who we are
• Trusting God’s grace again
• Learning to live out what was given to us
How do I prepare for baptism?
Preparation for Baptism is not about being “ready enough.” It is about hearing God’s promise.
Preparation usually includes:
• Conversation with a pastor
• Listening to the story of Baptism in Scripture
• Talking about what God gives in this gift
There is no test to pass. There is space for questions.
Baptism is not the end of a journey — it is the beginning of learning faith within God’s family.
What about children?
Children are welcomed fully into the life of the church.
When children are baptized, parents and the church together promise to:
• Teach the faith
• Pray for them
• Walk with them as they grow
Children learn faith the same way adults do — through grace, practice, and love over time.
Baptism is not about proving faith. It is about receiving a promise.
God speaks His “Yes” over a life — before we understand it, before we can explain it, before we can earn it.
Faith grows from there.
