The 4 G's - Week 1: God is Great, So We Don't Have to Be in Control

April 19, 2015 Preacher: Aaron Lytle Series: The 4 G's

Topic: Control

4G’S - WEEK ONE

1The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” -Genesis 3:1

BEHIND EVERY SIN IS A LIE

GOD is GREAT—So I don’t have to be in control.
GOD is GLORIOUS—So we do not have to fear others.
GOD is GOOD—So we do not have to look elsewhere
GOD is GRACIOUS—So we do not have to prove ourselves.

GOD IS GREAT—So I do not have to be in control

12Who else has held the oceans in his hand?
Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers?
Who else knows the weight of the earth
or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale? —Isaiah 40:12

#Picture of the Universe

35As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” 36So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37But soon a fierce storm came up…—Mark 4:35-37

39When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” —Mark 4:39-40

15A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons. He was sitting there fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid. —Mark 5:15

33Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. —Mark 5:33

35While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”36But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.” —Mark 5:35-36

41Holding her hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means “Little girl, get up!” —Mark 5:41

25Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 26And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?27“Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 28And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?29“And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. 30These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. 31Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. —Luke 12:25-31

So who’s in control?

#VIDEO ILLUSTRATION

“The moment you wake up each morning, all your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job of each morning consists in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other, larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in.” —CS Lewis
