The Lies We Buy (Lent) - Lie: God is Not a Good Father

March 5, 2017 Preacher: Aaron Lytle Series: The Lies We Buy (Lent)

Topic: Lies We Buy Verse: Jeremiah 2:11– :13

God is not a Good Father: Lie

Do you struggle with fixating on buying, or getting certain goods? Do you ever say, we really need to get_________, when it's something that is not really a necessity at all? If so, why do you think that is the case? 11Has any nation ever traded its gods for new ones,

even though they are not gods at all?
Yet my people have exchanged their glorious God
for worthless idols!12The heavens are shocked at such a thing
and shrink back in horror and dismay,”
says the lord.13“For my people have done two evil things:
They have abandoned me—
the fountain of living water.And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns
that can hold no water at all! —Jeremiah 2:11-137He revealed his character to Moses
and his deeds to the people of Israel.8The lord is compassionate and merciful,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.9He will not constantly accuse us,
nor remain angry forever.10He does not punish us for all our sins;
he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.11For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.12He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west.13The lord is like a father to his children,
tender and compassionate to those who fear him.14For he knows how weak we are;
he remembers we are only dust.15Our days on earth are like grass;
like wildflowers, we bloom and die.16The wind blows, and we are gone—
as though we had never been here.17But the love of the lord remains forever
with those who fear him.
His salvation extends to the children’s children18of those who are faithful to his covenant,
of those who obey his commandments! —Psalm 103:7-184I prayed to the lord, and he answered me.
He freed me from all my fears.5Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.6In my desperation I prayed, and the lord listened;
he saved me from all my troubles.7For the angel of the lord is a guard;
he surrounds and defends all who fear him.8Taste and see that the lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!9Fear the lord, you his godly people,
for those who fear him will have all they need.10Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,
but those who trust in the lord will lack no good thing. —Psalm 32:4-101See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 2Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. —1 John 3:1-28Let them praise the lord for his great love
and for the wonderful things he has done for them.9For he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things. —Psalm 107:8-97“When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.10May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.11Give us today the food we need,
12and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.13And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one. —Matthew 6:7-13 VIDEO TESTIMONY
